Inexpensive Girly Gift Ideas!

If you're anything like me then the majority of your Christmas shopping is done however I wanted to do this post for anyone stuck for ideas as the big day is edging nearer! (how exciting) All these gift ideas are reasonably priced as this time of year can be slightly taxing on the purse strings and I wanted them to be helpful. Hopefully you like them all. If you have finished all your shopping then well done! Instead you could use this post as ideas for what to spend your Christmas money on or what to ask for.

Topshop Lipstick and Blush Gift Set (buy here)
This set is only £12 which is a massive bargain considering you getting two good quality makeup products which at somewhere like MAC would cost you around £30. They come in a reusable pvc makeup bag (see through clutch maybe?) which is pretty handy too as its easy to wrap and looks really cute!

Urban Decay Naked Palette (buy here)
These are quite pricey palettes but if you know a girl who loves makeup you can be sure she will love one of these as a Christmas present. What I would suggest is choosing the Naked Basics Palette if you can't afford one of these as it is a really handy all matte palette. I own no Urban Decay makeup so may have to get one of these for myself come next payday!

Benefit Rockateur Blush (buy here)
I haven't asked for anything specific this Christmas other than this blush. I recommend you google a swatch picture so you can see how pretty it is! I don't own any benefit products so cannot vouch for them myself but I'd take the word of the beauty blogger community that this will be good quality and worth the money.

Tangle Teezer (buy here)
Though this craze seems to have slightly passed, a tangle teezer would still make an amazing present for someone who has never used one. They come in all sorts of styles too so there will be one to suit everyone. I thought this pink one was really pretty and may ask for one myself!

New Look Christmas Jumper (buy here)
Having a Christmas jumper seems to be a must for many this year. They are cosy and festive which, in my eyes, makes a perfect present for someone of any age. This is just one jumper of many examples I could have picked however I thought the pompoms where really cute. This is something you can only really wear once a year so it might as well embrace the Christmas spirit!

Accessorize Cat Face Gloves (buy here)
I think face gloves with the open fingers and cap are so cute and obviously perfect for winter. Like the jumpers they could be for someone of any age and there are so many other designs such as cute ones from New Look and Topshop. These gloves also have a matching hat which is really cute.

Helen Fielding: Bridget Jones 3 (buy here)
Personally I love getting books for Christmas as its such a cosy time of year perfect for snuggling down for a good read. This is the newest book of the Bridget Jones trilogy which is definitely worth a read if you're a fan. It is a tearjerker but lovely still.

Yankee Candle (buy here)
The most popular candle brand for a reason, Yankee makes some amazing Christmas scents which would make a great festive themed present. It might also be nice to team this gift with some bath bombs or salts for someone who deserves a relaxing Christmas.

Hope you found these ideas helpful! Comment below if you have any other girly Christmas gift ideas which you would like to share and i hope you're all having a great advent!

TOPSHOP WINTER COAT!

I'm sure a few of you have already begun thinking about what winter coat you want to wear this year, so many different styles are on trend... parka, trench, duffle, camo, black, patterned and so on. For the past two years I have invested in coats from topshop which lasted me well. However both were quite loud and hard to style so this year I wanted a classic black coat to match anything and once again Topshop fulfilled my needs and desires...

Topshop Teddy Fur Pea Coat (buy here)

As you can see this coat is meant to come up quite large which is why I got it in an 8 when I am usually a 10. I wanted it to be slightly more fitted than on the model and the 8 fit me on the shoulders perfectly. The cost itself is faux fur so don't judge, I would never buy a real fur coat. It is extremely cosy and soft and the lining is lovely and smooth. When done up the buttons (which I think look horrible in the pictures!) are hidden.

Have you guys bought your winter coats yet or am I being too eager? Or are you sticking with last years trusty coat? Comment below and leave links to your blogs for me to check out!

International Beauty Swap!!

This post has been in the works for a while now so I'm really excited about finally writing it. The idea of an international beauty swap really appealed to me as here in the UK high street or drugstore makeup is quite expensive and there is a limited number of brands to choose from compared to America which is where the beautiful Deborah from Coffee, Prose, and Pretty Clothes lives. We gave ourselves a limit of £20 (and the equivalent in dollars) to spend on each other so I'm going to show you the lovely bits she got me!

Wet 'n' Wild Nail Colour in Everybody Loves Redmond
As a big fan of red nail polish I had to try this out straight away! It's such an amazing colour and pigmented too (the picture is of one coat) so I'm really happy with this. I have obviously heard of Wet 'n' Wild but never owned anything by them as I think it's only sold in America so it's really cool to try out their products!

Wet 'n' Wild Eyeshadow Palette in Comfort Zone
I have seen many great reviews about the Wet 'n' Wild eyeshadows but have never tried them myself for the same reason I haven't tried their nail polish (so deprived) so I'm so excited to try these out. The colours are amazing! I like the bottom right one because it is really iridescent and eye catching and it is also the one Deborah told me to check out so I can't wait to use it. I tried to swatch it but my camera didn't do the colour justice.

Physicians Formula Glossy Stain in Hot Pink
The packaging of this lip stain is like nothing I have seen before! So very very cute! Although the shade is called hot pink this is a lot more purple based which I love because it suits my skin tone really well. I think this will be great for a night out with Topshop's The Damned Lipstick under it.

Covergirl Lash Exact in Very Black
I already know that I'm going to love this mascara just by looking at the wand. It is very similar to the Max Factor mascaras I love so I'll be interested to see which is a better quality as I think they are the same brand with different names or a sister brands.. something like that! I'm wearing this now and I can say so far so good, my lashes look long and defined.

Lastly in the package along with all these lovely makeup products Deborah sent a letter explaining why she picked each product and what to look out for with each one which I thought was a lovely thoughtful touch.

A big thankyou is needed for Deborah for agreeing to do the swap with me. I love everything you picked, it is all very my kind of product!! I can't wait to read your post on what I got for you and everyone reading this please check out her blog, it is amazing! Not your everyday beauty/fashion blog at all so definitely worth it CLICK HERE

Review: Rimmel London Lasting Finish 1000 Kisses Lip Tint

After seeing Georgia May Jagger in the Rimmel advertising campaigns I decided to try out their lasting finish, apparently transfer proof lip tints in the colours 'Carry on Cherry' and 'Perpetual Plum'. (also, this is not really relevant but props to Mick Jagger for his Glasto performance, if you saw you'll understand!Perpetual Plum (buy here) is definitely my favourite out of the two colours I tried.  Carry on Cherry is a darker red colour which I still really like, I find them both very flattering on my pale skin. I was really happy with this product. They last all day and are very pigmented which is handy for people like me who have naturally dark lips anyway. They also smell really good, not that smell is a massive issue! The only drawback is with the moisturising balm on top of the tint it isn't transfer proof. However I actually prefer not using the balm as I like the matte finish more than the shine. I would definitely recommend these as they are good quality and really cheap too. (£5.99)

Review: Topshop Matte Nails

I'll start with the blue colour which is called Dungaree Denim (buy here) which is actually the one I tried out last and still have on now. The application is really easy with your traditional flat top brush and it also dries amazingly fast which I guess has something to do with the different ingredients to normal nail polish. I've managed to get away with one coat here. It hasn't got amazing staying power and started to chip after about 3 days but I didn't use a base or top coat which may have helped. I was worried it would make it shiny again? I love the colour against my pale skin and am impressed with how pigmented it is.

The second colour I got is called Brutal (buy here) It has the exact same bulk standard brush as Dungaree Denim and again was quite easy to apply. However this one definitely needs two coats and it wasn't very true to colour compared with the pictures from the Topshop website. It did dry really fast which is handy but again it didn't last that long. A main downside to these nail varnishes was that after the third or fourth day the matte effect seemed to have gone and they were shiny like a normal polish. The first time this happened I thought maybe it was imagination but it happened with both and I'm not too sure why.

Overall I probably wouldn't buy these again as they are quite expensive at £6 and even more for postage too as my local store doesn't stock makeup.

Review: Topshop 'The Damned' Lipstick

I recently got a new lipstick and decided because I like it so much to review and recommend it to everyone! It's purple... I have to say, not my usual cup of tea however I love it. Its more of a night time colour as it is really dark but I've been wearing it about the house all day! The lipstick applies smoothly and has a matte-satin finish and smells of nothing which is all how I like it. Its staying power is not the best and you do have to reapply it every hour or so.  Overall I'm really happy with this and it was only £8 which for a high street decent quality lipstick isn't too bad!

REVIEW: TOPSHOP JEANS

LEIGH JEANS
If you're not a fan of jeans because you find them too restricting then you'll love these. There is literally no denim in them, it's all a stretchy cotton material which I loveee! They're so comfy and perfect for summer because they're so light. Drawbacks to these are the colour fades pretty quickly which hella annoying considering the price tag.. they also lose their shape quite quickly which isn't great. No one likes saggy knees or crotch area. Also they got rid of the roll hem which looked awesome with flats and now there is no hem at all, they're just sort of cut so I roll mine up myself. I have a lookbook video you can see here showing how I style a black pair of Leigh Jeans if you want a better idea of how they fit.

JAMIE JEANS
This is my favourite style by far and I have myself a few pairs of these. The denim is the best quality out of the lot- it's still not really denim though, more of a lycra/cotton mix and still really comfy. The colour doesn't fade with them as quickly either but if you find your jeans fade a lot then you can wash them with a tablespoon of salt to help, I do whenever I get a new pair to help the colour last. These don't lose their shape, I remember them being marketed as 'performance stretch' so it might have something to do with that. They also make my bum look good because of how tight and high waisted they are which is a plus.

JONI JEANS
These are basically legging to be honest with you, not that that is a bad thing. I love Joni jeans especially for nights out because they are soo high waisted and I feel like they hold my belly in and make me look really perky and streamlined... sorry about the weird description. But these have major drawbacks which I think everyone has heard about now. They loose their colour SO fast and I have no idea why, you can see from the pictures of mine how much they've faded. Also after a while they seem to get stretch marks which I think is where the elastic in them melts in the wash and goes weird, the only thing I can say to stop this happening is don't tumble dry them. They fit perfectly though and I can't find anything like them for the same/cheaper price so I always repurchase. I kinda think it would be worth me investing in some American Apparel ones but they're soo much money and it pains me to think about spending that much..

ALL THE OTHER KINDS
Mehh, does anyone even by Baxter Jeans? I'm not a fan myself, then denim is way too thick and there isn't a very wide selection of colours. The Mom Jeans always look soo nice on the models but I find them too baggy on me and I know they're meant to be but I want a little shape.. girl with legs>potato. The Asos Mom jeans are much nicer if you're in the market for a pair. I'm going to do a blog post on them asap which I will link here for you so you can see how they fit. Hope you found this review helpful and feel free to leave me any questions you have below and I will try to answer them!

How I Help My Acne. Nixoderm

As my first ever blog post (how exciting!!) I thought I'd tackle an issue which affects a lot of people including myself... sigh. I did some research for this post am pretty astonished by what I found out. Acne affects 80% of people between the ages of 11 and 30 and some people can even get it into their forties. So really there is no need to freak about breakouts... Ha, I know

Exfoliation
I tend to use a scrub once every two or three days depending on how oily/clogged my skin is feeling. These are both great products and practically the same other than The Body Shop one is rich with vitamin C which helps brighten the skin, Soap&Glory Scrub Your Nose In It is cheaper. They have really fine beads which I find much more effective than chunkier scrubs as depending on how much pressure you use when massaging into your skin they can be gentle or harsh. These are both great at getting rid of dry skin and blackheads.

Spot Treatments
Effaclar Duo from La Roche-Posay has had so much hype which I generally agree with, I use this all over my face like you would a moisturiser rather than a specific spot treatment which I find pretty effective at keeping my skin clear along with exfoliating. It contains salicylic acid which works by keeping your pores unclogged through doesn't actually kill any bacteria. It's also good for fading acne scars but products like Bio Oil or things containing rosehip oil are much better for that.
For specific spot treatment I use Nelsons Pure&Clear Acne Treatment Gel and the Clinique Anti Blemish Solution which have a major price difference and also a majorly different ingredients list. The Nelsons one is a lot more natural, the main active ingredient being teatree oil. The Clinique gel contains salicylic acid though they both work equally as well. They sting a tiny bit. The Clinique one is fine to put makeup over but the Nelsons one isn't so I use it at night only. They both dry up blemishes very quickly, it helps that they both contain alcohol.

Nixoderm
This is my holy grail anti acne fighting product! I don't think you can buy it in the UK other than on eBay for around £2 which is where I get what I expect will be a lifelong supply.. or until I stop needing it. As you can see it's just a white cream and the packaging isn't anything fancy. It smells pretty rank too but it works amazingly well. It contains three active ingredients; precipitated sulphur salicylic acid and benzoic acid. Benzoic acid/benzoyl peroxide works by destroying bacteria linked to the causes of acne so this really covers all bases though it does burn for quite a while. If you have sensitive skin you can mix it with Vaseline to stop this. It's almost like what I imagine a chemical peel to do, it removes your dead skin and dries up spots pretty instantly.. I only use it at night as it leave my skin really red. Sounds scary and even though it looks pretty dodgy I definitely recommend trying it for spots and blackheads.

I was also on Microgynon contraceptive pill which is said to help control breakouts though I didn't notice any effect and decided to come off it as it made me crazy hormonal! My doctor also gave me an antibiotic called Doxycycline which I decided to come off too it didn't work at all and a side effect makes skin sensitive to the sun which sucks!I hope this post will help anyone looking for a new and cheap way of controlling their acne.
